Descendant Suffolk Dark Ale - CHELSEA MA - 7.o %ABV
by Derek Brewlander | August 30th, 2012
Descendant Suffolk Dark Ale is complex English style stout brewed locally in Chelsea, MA. This 7.0 ABV beer comes in a corked 750 ml bottle and is quite delicious. To start, it pours extremely dark, almost black with a very large foam head, which is at least 2 inches even with a very gentle pour. The head maintains for a quite a bit while drinking and it has excellent long lasting lacing. The aroma is awesome, immediately brings dessert to my mind. You get a lot of coffee, toffee, Belgian yeast and cocoa in there with a little bit of that classic roasted barley smell that is very common among English stouts. The taste is as outstanding as it is unique. The first thing I got was sweet chocolate, dark coffee and roasted malt flavor, followed by a slight tart hint of cherry and finishes slightly bitter and very dry. The mouth-feel is also very unique, being that it is medium bodied and very carbonated, but also very rich, smooth, creamy and very drinkable. This is a very different and complex beer, but in a good way. There is a ton going on with all of the different flavors but it ends up mixing together well to be quite delicious. This is a perfect dessert beer and great to sip on a cool fall night. Come on down and try another delicious beer from New England and support your local breweries! Cheers!
