Trappistes Rochefort
Trappistes Rochefort 10 - Belgium - 11.3% ABV

Wow. The Trappiste Rochefort 10 beer from the Brasserie de Rochefort brewery in Belgium is a masterpiece of a beer. Not only is it a rare quadrupel beer(rare here in the states) but it is one of the best quads in the world. It is brewed authentically in Belgium and imported here in single bottles. To begin, it pours a dark foggy reddish brown with about a two finger head and medium lacing. It also has a bit of sediment at the bottom. The aroma is strong and bold - very alcoholy, with awesome hints of dark baked bread and rich spices. The taste is outstanding and a bit surprising - let me elaborate. Judging from the smell, and given what I expect from strong quadrupels, I was expecting a strong alcohol flavor and was pleasantly surprised when it was virtually nonexistent. It is sweet, malty, and rich with hints of caramel, dark fruits, and spices. You absolutely would not guess that this is an 11+% ABV beer given how good it tastes and how unique the flavors are. It is a medium bodied brew with a very smooth finish and great drinkability. Overall, it just makes for an amazing beer. It's dark yet smooth, strong yet easily drinkable, and amazingly complex. This truly is a delicacy of a beer and being this is an authentic Belgian brewed beer(not just Belgian style), I recommend you come down to Depot Liquors and try a bottle. Cheers and have a great holiday!
