The Brooklyn Brewery
Irish Dry Stout - BROOKLYN NY - 4.7 ABV
by Derek Brewlander | January 31st, 2013
This week the beer of choice is Brooklyn Irish Dry Stout, and a special thanks to Justin Michael for the recommendation because it was certainly an excellent choice. Brooklyn Brewery has yet to disappoint so I went into this with fairly high hopes. It pours a super dark brown/black with a small tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves a smaller amount of lacing. Now it looks fairly ordinary and maybe that is why it surprised me a little going forward. The aroma is almost all roasted malts and coffee....very nice on the old olfactory sensors. The flavor and mouth-feel however are where this stout truly shines. You really get the great fresh roasted malt and coffee flavors up front with some caramel and nutty notes and a subtle hint of hops that you notice on the dry finish. The mouth-feel is that of a surprisingly light to medium bodied beer with the perfect medium amount of carbonation and an immaculately smooth, dry finish. Overall, I loved this beer and think it is one of the smoothest and most drinkable beers I have had the privilege of consuming. In fact, this is the perfect session beer, meaning that is enjoyable to drink multiple of these over a decent period of time without getting absolutely hammered or getting sick of it. It is truly a pleasure on all of the senses to drink. Come on down to Depot Liquors and grab a six pack to see for yourself. Don't forget to let us know what you think of it! Cheers!
