Left Hand Brewing Company
Milk Stout - LONGMONT CO - 6% ABV
by Derek Brewlander | February 7th, 2013
I have to admit that I've been on quite a stout kick lately. There is something about the winter that just makes stouts even more appealing and delicious than usual, and when I'm going to be holed up like a hibernating bear in my comfy den for this blizzard, the outstanding Left Hand Milk Stout is the perfect companion! To start, it pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a slight creamy head. The aroma is a full of dark malts, a little smokey, with hints of roasted grains, coffee, and chocolate. The flavor is much of the same but richer, you get those dark malts with smokey notes along with a bit of sweet, dark, milky coco flavor. It has a medium sweetness and not much bitterness, but works astoundingly well and is not overbearing. It is on the solid side of medium bodied with light carbonation, and the milky finish is smoother than silk. Overall, I absolutely loved this stout. Not only is it a great dessert beer, but the sweetness isn't overwhelming and it is so smooth that it makes for a great session beer and is one of the most drinkable stouts I have tried.
Also, I would like to thank all of you for the great suggestions I received yesterday on what beer to review. Please keep the suggestions coming, I want to review the beers that you all are interested in trying, so the more feedback the better! Now get down to Depot Liquors and stock up for this blizzard! Cheers!
